Project: Drainage Swale
An Effective Approach to Erosion Control
Following up on this spring’s storm water management program, agroecologist Peter Jensen helped us apply what we learned by leading us in a hands-on upgrade of the drainage swale in front of the Sand Hill School Community Center. A drainage swale is a broad, vegetated channel used to control and filter storm water runoff and supplies water to the vegetation.
The project took place April 30. The town delivered compost, garden club members supplied the brawn, and Peter offered the brainpower. The Sandwich Enterprise was there to cover the project and did an excellent write-up with photos which can be accessed here.
